Your Invitation!

2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.

Matthew 22:2-3

Sunday, February 3, 2013 marks one of most important days for millions of people.  They will have spent this past week planning food, drinks, and decorations for 2-20 people,  to spend all afternoon (if not more) in front of the television.  It just isn’t right to miss the biggest football game of the year!

About 100,000 of those millions of people actually get to be at the game in New Orleans today. They got their invitation; they got their ticket. You probably can find a picture of them on Facebook, holding up their ticket so everyone can see it; and another one of them arriving in New Orleans; another one as they walk through the gate. Then another dozen pictures at the game, and then the after-game parties. The next day, a co-worker posts one of the person sleeping at their desk.

We put all of that effort into, and we would “die for” a ticket to be at, a single event. And when it’s over, it’s over! Life goes back to the same routines and we look for the next thrill.

There is another invitation we should be willing to “die for.” And we don’t have to be someone special to get it and the number of invitations is not limited. We just have to receive it; we have to be willing to come.

And the best part of all – the invitation is for more than just one day or one weekend; it’s for eternity.  God’s “party” never ends.  Once we accept His invitation, we will be in His presence forever. No crowding. No pushing. No traffic jams. No headaches. No hangovers. No sickness.  No pain. Just worshiping and praising God for eternity.

Your invitation is in your hands.  It’s not lost in the mail. It’s not for only special people. And it contains your ticket for what is really important – where you will spend eternity. So what are you waiting for? Open your invitation and show everyone your ticket!
