A Real New Year’s Day!

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day seem to be special days in the social calendar. Hours before the passing of midnight, thousands upon thousands of people crowd Time Square in New York. And that scene, to some extent, is repeated throughout the world on that night. People try to forget what happened in the passing year, and promise to make changes for the better in the New Year. Only it never works that way.

But the only way to really make those changes is to allow God to give you the strength to make them. It is only in knowing God through His Son that will help you forget the past. When you make the decision to allow God to guide your life, you will truly experience your own New Year’s Day.

New Year’s Eve is where we celebrate things we want to forget
The mistakes we made, the money we lost; a lot of that I bet.
We try to push our dark past behind us, hoping it is truly gone,
Only to find out that a New Year usually proves us wrong.

We believe in some special magic in the passing of a year.
But if we really thought that, why do we proceed with fear?
We’re always looking back to see what’s catching up with us,
And we don’t see we’re about to be run over by this world’s bus.

Oh, we try to convince ourselves that with this New Year’s Day,
That we will suddenly do all things right and go in a new way.
But we find ourselves living in this world of darkness and of pain,
Overpowering any strength we have to make a meaningful gain.

There are many who walk with each day being a New Year’s Eve,
Always trying to forget a past with nothing on which to believe.
Only to find out that the next day is just like every other day,
For they do the same things; the same words they chose to say.

But there is One who always offers us truly a New Year’s Day.
With a strength we alone don’t have, He will show us a new way.
Where those mistakes of our sinful past are all truly taken away.
Through His Son who gave His life, that price for us He did pay.

Stop looking to the changing of a calendar to start your life anew.
Believe in God, the only One, who knows what you’re meant to do.
For it’s not by your own works that you will find this new way,
But through the love of Our Father, and will walk in your New Day.
