What Does Christmas Mean To You?

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:10-11

What is Christmas to you? Parties? Gifts? In-laws? Too much food? Lights? Anxiety? Fear? The problem is we have made Christmas all about one day, or perhaps even just a part of that day. But God intended for us to know that Christmas feeling, that Christmas Gift every single day. His Gift wasn’t meant to be unwrapped on Christmas Day and then forgotten like other gifts we receive. His Gift was for everyone, and for every day.

Oh, what does this Christmas day mean to you?
Does it depend on where you go or what you do?
Did you make the right party; mix with the right crowd?
Were you able to hear yourself think with noise so loud?

So, what is the real meaning of this Christmas Day?
Is it all about what you get or what you give away?
Are you sure that all the stockings are hung with care?
Are you still hoping that Santa Claus will soon be there?

What does this Christmas truly mean to you this year?
Does it come mixed with joy or perhaps filled with fear?
Is there any glimmer of hope in the things that you see?
Or are you walking in a darkness that won’t set you free?

Is Christmas just that special moment of a special day
When children’s eyes sparkle as they open gifts and play?
When the moments to remember are made every second,
And almost everyone gets enough to eat, and then some?

Is Christmas everything on that single December day
When we try to remember all the polite words to say?
Is it twenty-four hours when we try to do things right,
Knowing the things will probably change after that night?

Christmas is much more, and meant to be lived every day.
It’s in the things we are to do and the words we are to say.
It’s a feeling that reaches out and captures our very heart.
Christmas is what shows us that God loved us from the start.

So whatever you think this Christmas may mean to you,
There is only one thing that you should know is true.
Christmas is what the world may celebrate on a single day,
But God’s Gift we received is to be shared in every way.

Yes, Christmas is more than a moment; more than a day.
It’s more than the parties, presents, reindeer, and a sleigh.
It is God’s way of showing His love for you and for me.
The joy of Christmas is for every day as God meant it to be!
